Zekarias Sebhatu

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Zekarias Sebhatu, who departed this life on May 14, 2025, just days before his 69th birthday. Born on May 25, 1956, in Asmara, Eritrea, Zekarias was the beloved son of Sebhatu Elias and Letezghi Abraha. Zekarias immigrated to the United States in the early 1980s, seeking new opportunities and a better life. He first settled in Houston, Texas, before making his home in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he spent the majority of his life and became a cherished member of the community. He is survived by his devoted son, Philemon Sebhatu, who carries forward his father’s legacy of quiet strength and grace. Zekarias is now reunited with his late wife Almaz, his beloved son Nathan, and many loved ones who went before him. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace. Zekarias will be remembered by all who knew him for his unwavering integrity, his humble spirit, and the kindness he extended to everyone around him. His presence brought calm, his words offered wisdom, and his actions embodied a quiet dignity that left a lasting impact. He will be deeply missed. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expwy., Harvey, LA on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11am.
