MR. WILLIAM STERLING WALKER, SR., age 81, originally from Algiers, Louisiana and late of Wiggins, Mississippi, died of mesothelioma on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at his home in Marrero, Louisiana surrounded by his family.
Mr. Walker graduated from Martin Behrman High School in Algiers and studied at Delgado Community College of New Orleans. He was a retired welder and pipe fitter by trade, and a proud and continuous member of the United Association’s Plumbers and Steamfitters Local No. 60 for sixty-one years. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Wiggins, Mississippi.
He enjoyed cooking and competitive bowling and billiards. He loved the great outdoors and took his family on many road trips across the continental United States. He was an avid hunter and fisherman—a true Louisiana sportsman, and a gifted raconteur of his adventures.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mary Brown Walker Breland and Clarence Alvin Walker and a brother, Edward Levon Walker, Sr.
He is survived by his adoring wife of 62 years, Anna Marie Clark Walker and their children, William Sterling Walker, Jr. and son-in-law, Jeffrey Dreiblatt of Brooklyn, New York; Marie Walker Lloyd of Gretna, Louisiana; Darren James Walker and daughter-in-law Myrna Schultz Walker of Miramar Beach, Florida and Marrero, Louisiana; and Jeffrey Michael Walker and partner, Donna King of Marrero, Louisiana; his five grandchildren, Tiffany, Russell, Brandon, Blake and Heidi; and nine great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Aiden, Aubree, Landen, Liam, Kylie, Braydn, Avery and Adalyn as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Walker’s name to Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (http://www.curemeso.org).
Visitation will be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd, Marrero, on Friday, October 4, 2024, beginning at 9:30 a.m., with a funeral service at 1:30 p m., and internment immediately following at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Terrytown.
