William "Billy" Edward De La Cruz

August 15, 1930 — February 26, 2017

William "Billy" Edward de la Cruz entered into rest on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the age of 86. He was born in New Orleans, LA and a lifetime resident of Gretna, LA. Preceded into death by his father William J. de la Cruz, and his mother Marguerite Sens de la Cruz. Beloved husband of Verlyn Tullier de la Cruz. Loving father of Danna D. Peltier (Richard) and the late Donna D. Brehm. Devoted grandfather of Jesi Linn Brehm. Brother of the late Sally G. Mayronne. He is also survived by his cousin Quentin J. Dawson, many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was a proud alumnus of Holy Cross High School. William was a decorated Korean War army veteran serving in SCARWAF (Special Category Army With Air Force) attached to the 808th Engineer Aviation Battalion APO 970. He was an engineer and medic. He retired with the state as an agent with the department of Alcohol Beverage Control. In recent years he has become active in with the Philippine-Louisiana Historical Society, sharing stories of his paternal grandfather Quintin de la Cruz and other families settling Manila Village in Barataria Bay in the Lafitte area. William was a gun enthusiast and great marksman. He loved nothing more than to sit around telling stories to friends and family over a cup of coffee or a glass of port.  Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Mothe Funeral Home Chapel, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA 70058 on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 1:00 PM.
