William “Bill” Charles Fortmayer Sr. passed away peacefully, in the presence of his family, on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the age of 90. While his journey on this earth was long, he has finally reunited with the love of his life, Carol Lee Kerner. He was a lifelong resident of Gretna, LA. William is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Fortmayer and Ellen McCormack Fortmayer; his beloved wife, Carol Lee Kerner Fortmayer; his two brothers, Albert “Buddy” and Lloyd Fortmayer and sisters, Henrietta Hebert and Ellen Barras.
Survivors include his two sons, William Charles Fortmayer Jr. (the late Nancy Lee) and Andrew Kerner Fortmayer (Rosa) and his daughter, Vida Fortmayer Hotard (Edward). He is also survived by his grandchildren, William Charles Fortmayer III, Ashley LeBlanc, Jeffrey Hotard, Brittany Fortmayer, and Carol Lee Naquin. Great-grandfather of Michael and Morgan LeBlanc, William Fortmayer IV, and Hazelyn Fortmayer.
Bill served his country in the U.S. Army and later graduated from Tulane University. He was employed at Tidewater Marine for over 30 years. He was a member of Archbishop Blenk Knights of Columbus Council #1905 for 66 years. Bill was an avid fisherman with a specific passion for crawfishing. He enjoyed many crawfish boils and fish frys with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 9am to 11am. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna.
