Wilfred (Mac) McAnespy, a native of Algiers, LA, passed away peacefully at the age of 89, on Friday, May 5, 2017. He is preceded in death by his father, Louis Elwood (Holloway) McAnespy; his mother, Viola Hebert McAnespy; his two sisters, Helen Beauregard and Clarise Riehm; first wife, Audrey Weber McAnespy; step-daughter Kerry Callahan.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Denney McAnespy; his children Luanna McAnespy, Rachel McAnespy Jones, Henry McAnespy, Louis Mcanespy; his stepchildren, Kasey Hunter and Keith Hunter; and 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He served in the Korean War and is a retired Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army 377th TACOM. Wilfred also served as a police officer for the NOPD, and was a member of the American Legion 218. Always a man of dignity and respected by many.
The Bonnet Carré Spillway was where you could usually find Wilfred. As an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman, his passion was training Labrador Retrievers, and was an active member of the Ponchartrain Retriever Club. He enjoyed mentoring others in the sport, and served as judge for both local and national field trail competitions. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 11am at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Algiers, LA. Interment, Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, May 9, 2017 from 6pm until 10pm and again on Wednesday morning at Mothe Home, 1300 Vallette St. Algiers, La. from 8am until 10:30am.
