WANDA ELAINE TANSEY BARRIOS

In loving memory of Wanda Barrios, who graced this world on May 23, 1937, in New Orleans LA, and departed peacefully on December 9, 2025, in Marrero, LA. Wanda was a beacon of love and strength to all who knew her.

Wanda’s journey through life was marked by unwavering dedication to her family and a spirit of warmth that touched everyone she met, but most of all, her life was a testament to resilience.

She was the supportive and loving wife of the late Alvin J. Barrios for 55 years, and a lifelong resident of Marrero.

Raised by her beloved grandmother, the late Amelia Richardson Seminary, Wanda was the daughter of the late Kathryn Landwehr and the late Walter St Claire Tansey.

She was the mother of Melony Mouton (Ray), Shayne Barrios (Stephanie), and the late Nicles “Nicky” Barrios, grandmother of Matthew Moline and Kristen Dalton-Adams, great grandmother of Hunter Nicles Adams and Sean Landon Joseph Adams, whom she raised and lovingly cared for for eight years.

Wanda is survived by her brother, Kenneth Landwehr (Toni). She was predeceased by her sisters, Loretta Landwehr and Faye Palaunch.

She was proud to have received the St. Louis Award from the archdiocese, and was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph The Worker parish in Marrero where she was involved in Family Life Ministry, Couples Ministry, and served as a Eucharistic minister and Lector. She performed at Jazz Fest with the SJW choir.

For many years, Wanda worked as a secretary at the Gretna Courthouse for Roy Wilty. In addition to having secretarial skills, she learned court reporting and sign language.

She owned an antique shop, Bartan, loved attending auctions, perusing garage sales and thrift shops as she was a collector of china, glassware, and rare items relating to carnival and the depression era. In her home, she loved every activity from sewing to hosting pool and dinner parties, and she enjoyed nothing more than dancing to live music and laughing with ole Al.

Wanda also loved travel. With her husband Alvin, Wanda traveled extensively in the Caribbean, Europe, Australia, Asia and Central America.

Visitation will be held at St. Joseph The Worker Church on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 10:00 am to noon, followed by a mass. Interment will be private. Mothe Funeral Homes handled arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation or food items to St Joseph the Worker food pantry.

The family would like to thank Gayle Polite, with Compassus, for her loving care and devotion. Above all, we thank Jane Haley with Tranquil Living, for the many years of service and dedication to Wanda (Aka Sista). These women were a blessing from God.

To Nicolle Barrios McGuiness, thank you for making Wanda’s dying wish come true.
