Abita Springs

Vernon (Jay) Rafael Quiros, Jr., age 57, passed away from heart disease on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Jay made an unforgettable impression on everyone he met, and his larger than life personality will forever remain in our hearts.

Captain Jay was born on December 26, 1966. He was a lifelong resident of the West Bank and a resident of Abita Springs at the time of his passing.

Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Rafael Quiros, Sr. and Marjorie (Margie) Palmisano Quiros and his brothers Rene Kinsella and Keith Kinsella. He is survived by his loving wife, Denise Johnson Quiros, his daughters Madison Quiros and Olivia Quiros, stepdaughter Kaylyn (Jacob) Thompson, and stepsons Kyle (Anna) Marcon and Kade Marcon. He was Paw Paw Jay to his granddaughter Avery Thompson. Jay is also survived by his sisters Andrea (Lee) Audibert, Margo (Andrew) Martin, and Sandra (Chris) Feeney along with countless family and friends.

Jay graduated from Saint Paul's School in 1986. Earlier in life, Jay was the owner of Wego Auto Sales and a member of the Sea Tigers Spearfishing Club. Later, Jay followed his passion for fishing and established On A Mission Fishin Charters operated in Venice, Louisiana. Jay never met a stranger and made countless friendships in both the car business and in Venice. He attended Church of the King in Mandeville, Louisiana.

Jay's generosity and hospitality knew no boundaries. In his presence, joy and laughter were abundant, as was the food, since he was sure to leave you with a full stomach, hungry or not. Moreover, he was the most loving, caring friend and would give you the shirt off his back. If not in the kitchen cooking some grand meal, you could find him on the water with his love for fishing. Jay also loved the hunt of a good estate sale and the rescue of a stray dog. Jay Q was the life of the party and always stood out with his boisterous storytelling, charisma, and unique style, which will be missed dearly by his family and friends. To know him was to love him.
