Tobias H. “Butch” or “Toby” Ohmer III, a beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, brother, neighbor, and friend, passed away on January 20, 2025, at the age of 87. A longtime resident of Bridge City, Louisiana, Butch (or Toby, as he was affectionately known to many) led a remarkable life marked by love, service, laughter, and adventure.
Butch proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, earning three medals for his dedication and service. He later continued his commitment to his country by joining the Navy Reserve. Professionally, Butch worked as an engineer, contributing his expertise and knowledge in his field for many years. His passion for technology and innovation extended beyond his professional life—he developed a deep fascination and love for computers. Butch eagerly embraced the ever-evolving world of technology, spending hours learning and tinkering with computers, always eager to understand the latest advancements.
Outside of his career, Butch was passionate about flying planes, dancing, and spreading joy with his sharp sense of humor—often lightheartedly playing jokes on those around him. In the recent past, Butch particularly enjoyed attending the neighborhood senior center, where he participated in various activities, finding companionship and joy in his community. His enthusiasm for life remained evident in the way he engaged with others, always eager to take part in everything the center had to offer.
Butch was preceded in death by his loving wife of 33 years, Dianna M. Cheramie Este Ohmer, and his step-grandson, Adam “A.J.” Brown. He was also preceded by his parents, Tobias John Ohmer and Nita Plaisance, his half-brother Freddy Trosclair Jr. (Pookie Buddy), and his half-sister Betty Ann Comeaux.He is survived by his half-sisters, Darlene Billiot (Raymond), Donna Mansfield, Elizabeth Ohmer Pellegrin (Robert), Jennifer Ohmer, and Jeanette Ohmer Davis, as well as stepsons Todd Este (Shayna) and Kevin Este. He was a proud step-grandfather to Justin Este and Savannah Este.
Butch will be remembered for his warm heart, strong spirit, and playful nature. He was not only a loving family member but also a great neighbor and friend to many. His laughter, kindness, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Church in the Home, 1100 Avenue E, Westwego, Louisiana, followed by burial at Plaisance Cemetery located at the back of the church.
