Thomas Cosimo Tomba Sr.

September 18, 1931 — April 5, 2023

Thomas Cosimo Tomba, 91, of Covington, Louisiana, peacefully entered eternal rest on April 5, 2023 surrounded by his family. Tom was born Sept. 18, 1931 in Morgantown, West Virginia. After high school, Tom joined the United States Air Force, and while stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, he met and later married Barbara Ann Whitney of New Orleans, Louisiana on November 15, 1952. Following his service in the USAF, Tom and Barbara settled in New Orleans and raised their family.
He was a successful businessman who possessed a vibrant sense of humor. With his unrelenting work ethic and engaging, infectious personality, he worked tirelessly in the two-way radio communications industry, eventually becoming a partner in Communication Services of Louisiana (CSL), before founding Tomba Communications and Electronics in 1974, which became a Motorola Service Station, the largest in Louisiana, serving federal, state and local public safety communications in Southeast Louisiana, and numerous other customers in the community. He was a long-standing Member of the Motorola Advisory Committee, and he was recognized throughout his career with various awards and commendations too numerous to mention. Through the years, Tom enjoyed golf and traveling, but most of all, he enjoyed people, especially his family, his number one priority. He had unquestionable love for them all. He was an especially proud grandfather. He always surrounded himself with family and friends, which made him very happy. He enjoyed being with people, sharing a meal, and hearing and telling funny stories. We cannot stop hearing the sound of his laughter. An avid sports fan, he cheered for the West Virginia Mountaineers, the New Orleans Saints, and The Pelicans.
He touched many lives with his abundant and never ending generosity, and will be forever remembered by all for his willingness to help others in need. Tom will be forever loved and remembered. To say that he will be missed is an understatement, but what we will miss most is his love for all of us.
He is survived by his four children, Thomas C. Tomba, Jr. (Jean), Bobbie Tomba Breaux, Susan Tomba Augello (Frank), and Nicholas Tomba, his grandchildren, Thomas C. Tomba, III, Daniel Nicholas Tomba, Nicola Cosimo Tomba, Gabrielle Whitney Tomba, Jared Augello (Lisa), and great grandchildren, Jillian Augello, Lyla Augello and Jordan Augello. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Tomba (Linda) of Slidell, Louisiana, his sister, Marianna Stronko (Joseph) of Oviedo, Florida, his cousin Nicholas Tomba of Painesville, Ohio, his brother-in-law, Oliver Whitney (Maria) of Mandeville, Louisiana, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Whitney Tomba, parents, Fannie Miller Tomba and Nicola Cosimo Tomba, his brother, Charles Tomba of Painesville, Ohio, and his son-in-law, Lionel Breaux, Jr.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the skilled nursing staff at Christwood Retirement Community and Notre Dame Hospice for their loving care in Tom’s last days with us.
