Thomas Dennis Crombie passed away peacefully on April 1, 2017 at the age of 84 years. Beloved husband of Lena DiMiceli Crombie. Father of Patricia M. Crombie, Christopher W. Crombie, Thomas L. Crombie (Victoria “Marcey”), Jennifer A. Lewis (Robert), Maria L. Crombie (John) and Matthew D. Crombie. Grandfather of Blake, Arielle, Evelyn, Alexander and Blaine. Brother of the late Albert A. Crombie, Grace A. Crombie and Doris C. Pons. Son of the late William Alonzo Crombie and Agnes Dennis Crombie. Also survived by other loving family members and friends.
Dennis graduated from St. Aloysius High School and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He later graduated from L.S.U.N.O. (U.N.O.) with degrees in Business and Accounting. He worked for local businesses including the Housing Authority of New Orleans of which he retired. In post-retirement, he continued working as a bus driver for the Orleans Parish Public Schools. He was a talented baseball player, playing in the men’s league in Algiers at Behrman and the Gretna league at Knight’s Corner. He played and pitched for over 25 years, later coached for the St. Julian Eymard C.Y.O. and umpired for various youth games.
He was a member of the “Lucky 13” Social Club and attended events at Brother Martin High School (St. Aloysius).
He was very active in his Church, the former St. Julian Eymard Catholic Church and later, Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church and remained active in the Holy Name Society of St. Julian Eymard.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 1300 Vallette Street, Algiers, LA on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 9 AM to 1 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment St. Bartholomew Cemetery in Algiers.
