Tekewah Naji Simens

Mrs. Tekewah Naji Guy Simens, R.N., 41, a resident of Harvey, LA, a loving and beautiful mother, wife, daughter, and sister, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at her home after a brief illness. She was affectionately known by family and friends as “Keebee”, “Tiki”, & “Tizzy”. Tekewah was born on April 14, 1982, in New Orleans, LA to the late Mr. Ralph H. Guy and to Ms. Linder M. Smith. She was baptized at a young age and was a current member of Good Faith Baptist Church in Lettsworth, LA under the direction of Rev. Dr. Lionel Davis, Sr. She was a graduate of Scotlandville Magnet High School in Baton Rouge, LA as a member of the Class of 2000. She then attended the University of New Orleans where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology in 2006. She later attended Delgado Community College where she received her Associate in Science degree and was also pinned at their Charity School of Nursing for completing the accelerated nursing program in May 2016. During her nursing program in May 2015, she was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Society. After obtaining her nursing degree, she passed the NCLEX and received her license to practice as a Registered Nurse from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing in 2016. Her nursing career spanned the Greater New Orleans and Westbank New Orleans hospital communities, practicing at West Jefferson Medical Center, Oceans Behavioral Hospital Greater New Orleans, and Ochsner Medical Center where she was employed until her death. he loved She found to be nursing to be her calling especially helping patients with complex cases and disease management.   On December 1, 2003, she brought into the world the first love of her life, a daughter, Amyrie Monique Brown (father Nicholas Brown). All of her life’s works and achievements were focused on providing for her baby girl and making sure she had a beautiful life and experiences and ensuring the goals she set for her future were achieved. Amyrie graduated from John Ehret High School in 2022 with several honors and is now an Honors College sophomore at Edinboro Penn West University in Edinboro, PA, studying Art Animation. Tekewah later met the final love of her life Mr. William “Pete” Simens whom she married on January 11, 2021. With Pete, they settled in Harvey, LA, and created the blended family she always wanted. This includes her daughter Amyrie, bonus children Diallo K. Simens, who is currently serving in the U.S. Navy, and Rene Simens, a third grader, and all the family pets. Together, they also created their own company, “Pete the Pool Guy”, providing residential and commercial pool cleaning services that served the Greater New Orleans and West Bank areas. 

Tekewah had many talents, hobbies, and pastimes. At a young age and as a teenager, she was very musically talented as she was a singer, played the piano & keyboard, and tap danced. She enjoyed traveling to different vacations especially Disneyworld and to the Gulf Coast beaches. She enjoyed cooking

meals for Pete and the children and having big family breakfasts and dinners. She also loved having a “pet family” in her home and always had room for more dogs and cats and kept beautiful aquariums with vibrant fishes in them. She loved aquatic life and sea animals, especially dolphins and sharks. She loved spending time at family gatherings, especially with her cousins. Among family and friends, her self-taught hobbies and skills such as being “IT TECH” and computer savy, doing hair styling, and giving make-up and beauty tutorials truly enriched lives. Tekewah leaves to cherish her memories her husband, William “Pete” Simens, her daughter, Amyrie M. Brown, and two bonus children Rene Simens (Harvey, LA) and Diallo Simens (San Diego, CA), and pet dogs Daisy and Percy; two beloved sisters: Tamani Demetris Guy and  Telia Mijuan Guy (Harvey, LA); her mother and step-father Linder M. Smith and Herbert L. Dixon (Morganza, LA); Maternal Grandfather, Ed Williams (Innis, LA); Mother-in-Law Ruthann Sherbine (Richmond, VA); Father-in-Law Ulyssess Narcisse (New Orleans, LA); 4 sisters-in-law- Kasia Holmes, Kissy Homes, Jessica Simens (New Orleans, LA)  and Stephanie Ann Simens (Woodstock, VA), 2 Brothers-in-law Tony Simens and (Iron Hill, PA) and Ulysses Holmes (New Orleans, LA); 12 maternal and paternal aunts and uncles; Devoted friends Ben and Maegan  Deffendall,  the Ochsner Medical Center & West Jefferson Medical Center nursing community, and a host of dear cousins, other relatives, neighbors, co-workers, and friends. Preceded in death by her father Ralph H, Guy, Grandparents Idella T. Williams, Willie M. Guy, and L.C. Smith, Sr., 2 aunts Jenithel “Janice” Smith and Brenda Smith, 1 Uncle Derek Smith, and 1 sister-in-law Shannon Simens. Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 1:30 pm to be held at Mothe Funeral Homat 7040 Lapalco Blvd, Marrero, LA 70072, (504) 348-2010. Public viewing and visitation at 12:30 pm. Burial Interment following services at Garden of Memories Funeral Home and Cemetary, 4900 Airline Dr, Metairie, LA 70001. Rev.
