Sylvia Claire Finnan, 98, of Gretna, Louisiana, passed away on September 17, 2026. Born on August 22, 1928 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Sylvia lived a long and full life marked by love, warmth, and a spirit that touched everyone who knew her.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert Edward Finnan; her parents, Ada Bernadette Duplechin and Lemey Duplechin; and her brothers, Giles and Allen Duplechin.
She is survived by her children: Michael Finnan (Debbie); Maureen Cossich (Harrell); Melissa LeJeune (Randall); and Matthew Finnan.
She was a cherished grandmother to Ashley Swinney; Dawn Mclendon (Scott); Jason Finnan; Chad Cossich (Daphne); Aimee Connolly (Joe Pat); Colleen Brown (Clay); Alexander Lejeune; Abbye,Trevor (Emily), and Quenton Finnan.
She was further blessed with great-grandchildren Chance Campbell; Ada McClendon; Madison and Colin Finnan(Their Mother, Jennifer); Jack and Aubree Reed; Gabrielle, William, and Kayda Swinney; Grayson Lejeune; Finn and Hadley Corkern; and Pennie Finnan.
Sylvia found joy in the simple things — cooking for her family, sewing, and caring for the people around her. She was known for her loving heart, her thoughtfulness, and her kindness — she had a way of making everyone around her feel seen and cared for. She was, in every sense, one of a kind, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sylvia will be remembered for her warmth, her skill in the kitchen, her love of needle and thread, and the countless ways she cared for her family across the generations.
Visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, Louisiana, from 11:30 AM until 1:30pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:30pm. Interment, Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Family and friends can view and sign the online guest book at www.mothefunerals.com.
Flowers are welcome, and donations may also be made to the Catholic church in her memory.
