Susan Louise Dupre Byrnes was born on August 19, 1958 to Cleo Leibouvitz and Oris Dupre in Gretna Louisiana. Susan was the second of 4 siblings and is survived by Steve (Martina), resident of Switzerland, Tammy, her caretaker living in Laplace, and Norman (Cynthia) who resides in Missouri. Susan was inquisitive, challenging and talented her whole life, teaching herself to play both the piano and guitar. An alumni of Lutheran High School on Washington Avenue in New Orleans, class of 1976, where she met her life long best friend Liande Wainie. Susan loved to swim, dance, and have fun. Married in 1980 the relationship did not survive, but it did give her the truest love of her life, her daughter Tami Jo Byrnes Conran (David). Life was not always fair to Susan, then illnesses finally demanding too much for at home care. Her final years were at Twin Oaks Nursing Home where she played bingo almost daily and won so much they called her the bingo diva. Susan was the Queen of Carnival in 2023 and president of the resident council for years. For as long as she could, she kept herself busy. Fighting MS, stage 4 lung cancer and multiple other conditions, Flu A was too much for her body to handle. Susan died peacefully on December 21, 2025 surrounded by her daughter, son in law, sister, best friend, and beloved niece Cleo Dupre at Carpenter House in New Orleans.
Susan did not want a formal wake and funeral. Instead, she has requested a Celebration of Life. A party where friends and loved ones will share funny stories of their past escapades and memories while listening to her favorite country music. This will likely not occur until both brothers are able to attend in the latter of 2026. Should anyone wish to send flowers or other monetary condolences, the family request donations go to Perry's Posse, a non-profit organizations that helps support cancer patients spiritually and financially in and around the River Parishes.
