Stuart David “Buster” “Meatball” Sanchez of Marrero was born in New Orleans on October 17, 1952, and passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 8:45 pm at The Sanctuary at Passages Hospice. He was 73. He was the beloved husband of Diana Hunter Sanchez for 53 years until his passing. Father of Tara Savannah Sanchez (Eddie Cortez). Son of the late Mervin Luke “Blackie” Sanchez and Alba Ruth Edgecombe Sanchez. Brother of Sara S. Rodrigue (late Rudy), the late Anthony Paul and two unnamed triplets, the late Karen S. Waguespack (Joseph Sr.), and the late Sybil S. Bowshier. Survived by many other loving nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and two granddogs. Former member of the Structural Ironworkers Union, Local 58 New Orleans. He played tackle on the 1970 AAAA Louisiana State Champion West Jefferson Buccaneers football team, was a member of the Los Isleños Heritage and Cultural Society, and a Mayflower descendant.Stuart was mechanically-inclined and could draft­­­ and engineer anything. He loved woodworking, refinishing furniture, fishing and gardening. He lived by “reuse, refurbish, recycle, reinvent”. Visitation will take place Friday, October 9, 2026, 11am until 1pm at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, Louisiana with a Funeral Service at 1pm and burial to follow at McDonogh Cemetary in Gretna.
