Stewart Jay Clark

January 26, 1946 — May 4, 2026

Stewart Jay Clark, 80, of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away on May 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 26, 1946, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Albert and Dorothy Clark, Stewart lived a life defined by intellectual curiosity, deep devotion to music, and an unwavering love for his family.

Stewart earned his undergraduate degree from Concordia University before serving as a Chaplain's assistant during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he pursued his passion for music, completing his Doctorate of Music at the University of Texas. His distinguished career in choral music included teaching choral directing at both Tulane University and the University of Texas at Dallas, as well as serving as Director of the Dallas Symphony Chorus. Later in his career, Stewart transitioned into medical management, working at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and subsequently at Mercy Family Center, demonstrating the same dedication and professionalism that had defined his years in music.

On March 7, 1980, Stewart married Kristina Skold, beginning a partnership that would sustain and enrich both their lives for over four decades. Outgoing, intellectual, and steadfast in his convictions, Stewart was a man who cared deeply about his family. He was unwavering in his liberal political views and never shied away from thoughtful conversation. He was a lover of music and a gifted chef who showed his love for others through the meals he prepared for family and friends.

Stewart is survived by his beloved wife, Kristina Clark; his daughters, Jessica Clark Chandamuri and Rachel Clark Tangney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Albert Clark, and his brother, Albert E. Clark.

A celebration of Stewart's life will be held at St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church at 7100 St. Charles Avenue on May 16, 2026 at 2pm.
