Obituary

Steven John Hinkel passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, at the age of 68. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on November 30th, 1957, to the late Dorothea and Frederick Hinkel, Sr.

He is the brother of Mark Hinkel (Melanie), the late Frederick Hinkel, Jr. (Rochelle), and the late Fay Zitzman (the late Emile). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.

A native of Gretna, Louisiana, and proud lifelong resident of Marrero, Steve graduated from West Jefferson High School and began his professional career as a diesel mechanic in the shipping industry. Steve was successful and well respected as a mechanic in the New Orleans area.

Steve was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring, giving person to all. His generosity was immeasurable. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, and playing cards. However, his true passion was spending time with his loving family and friends. He was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again.
