Shirley Gonzales Bourgeois

Our precious mother, Shirley Gonzales Bourgeois, passed away on May 16, 2023 at the age of 88. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and moved to Westwego with her family when she was very young. She remained a resident of the Westbank where she raised her family. She was happily married to Huey P. Bourgeois in 1956 until his passing in 2003. Shirley enjoyed cooking, gardening, doing word puzzles, playing Bourre, and taking road trips. She loved her family and was affectionately called MeiMei by all her grandchildren and their friends. There are not enough words to express how special Shirley was and how greatly she will be missed by her family and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years Huey P. Bourgeois, parents Marie A. (Lolly) Gonzales and Flabiano Gonzales; brothers Flabiano Gonzales Jr, George (Jay) Gonzales Sr., Jerry W. Gonzales Sr, and Ramos (NeNe) Gonzales; Aunt Doline Dora (Taunty) Dupuis, Uncle Elie L. Dupuis; and granddaughter Lauren Lynn Bourgeois

Shirley is survived by her loving children Penny B. Buras (the late Eddie), Dawn M. Bourgeois, Cory P. Bourgeois (Danette), and Joel A. Bourgeois (Kristi); her grandchildren Kiley LeCompte, Kimberly Clement, Brooks Bourgeois, Amber Bourgeois, Jordan Bourgeois, Caroline Bourgeois, Abigail Bourgeois, Ryan Bourgeois, Laney Bourgeois, and Eli Bourgeois; her great grandchildren Emily, Aidan, Sarah, Norah, Noah, Jacob, Jenna, Isabella, Alyson, Roman, Harlee, Lexie, and one great-great grandchild Eileen. The family wishes to thank Maria and Staff of Hospice Compassus for the care given to our mother.

Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Memorial Funeral Mass at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 11 AM. Interment Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery, Westwego, LA. Memorial Visitation will be held from 9 AM until mass time.
