Sheila Joy McClain Harris passed away on January 12th, 2026 at the age of 68. Sheila was born on September 8th, 1957 in Langdale, Alabama.
Sheila went to Valley High School in Riverview, Alabama and worked as an assistant manager at McDonald's, and later as a physical education teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard Milford and Pearl Jane (Lucille) McClain and her sister Chloette Osborn. She is survived by her husband Mark Harris; two children, Kyle Harris and Tamara Day (Mike); and her four grandchildren, Kyle Harris, Jr., Kayli Harris, Aubrey Day, and Taylor Day; her siblings Milford McClain, and Kathy McClellan; nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Stephanie, Belinda, Stephen, Chastity, and David; as well as many other beloved family and friends.
A devoted mother and grandmother, the love of her life was her children and grandchildren. Sheila loved tending to her garden daily with the goal of providing a welcoming habitat for birds, bees, and butterflies as well as a peaceful restorative place. Her second favorite place to be was the beach: early sunrises and long walks, napping in the shade while listening to the surf, and then long walks for sunset.
Sheila had a special gift for making any house a home for all who entered. Days spent working in the garden, evenings enjoying her garden, and then dinner with a movie at home were the happiest of times. Earning a childhood nickname of "Happy," which truly characterizes her, she had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to laugh, and always had the most beautiful smile and sparkling eyes. Above all, she understood what truly mattered: family, love, and the joy of being together. Her warmth, kindness, and zest for life touched everyone who knew her.
She was the most wonderful mother and grandmother our kids and grandkids could have ever wished for. She was my best friend, my rock, my guiding light, my world.
