Ruth Marie Denney Hunter McAnespy entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the age of 86. Ruth was the wife of the late Louis E. Hunter for 19 years and the late Wilfred J. McAnespy for 39 years. She is the Daughter of the late Everett Manning Denny and the late Gladys Reidy Hagler Denney Strunk. Loving and devoted Mother of Keith (Patricia) Hunter, Kasey Hunter and the late Kerry Hunter Callahan and the late Baby Boy Hunter. Loving Grandmother of Sol (Ellie) Salgado, Megan Hunter, Cody (Emily) Hunter, Adelai Evans, William Hunter, Emile Evans, Kaitlyn Hunter, Sophia Evans, Savannah (Caleb) Berry and Willie Maus. Beloved Great Grandmother of Lilah-lynn Jackson, Abigail Hunter and the late Laila May Berry. Ruth is the sister of Frank Denney, Richard Denney, Julie Denney Rhodes and the late Evetta June Phelps, the late Charles Phelps, the late Roy Denney and the late Howard (Marie) Denney. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended McAnespy Family.

Ruth Marie Denney was born in Northport Alabama on the 8th of December, 1938. She was one of 8 children. She grew up running the hills of Alabama until she moved to Palatka, Florida. As a young girl she was very active in 4-H and won many awards for sewing, cooking, photography and art. She married and moved to Louisiana and started a family. Widowed at 36 and having 3 young children she started making ends meet by teaching art and selling her paintings in the French Quarter. She was a very accomplished artist and won many awards for her paintings. She was also the Westbank art guild president for several years. She remarried at 39 to a widower with children and the family expanded to 7 kids. During that time she was always actively doing something whether volunteering at her church, gardening, painting pictures, woodworking and repairing old furniture. She loved to collect plates, old books and certain figurines. But, most of all she enjoyed entertaining. One of the biggest events we had growing up was the annual Thanksgiving breakfast. She would invite literally hundreds of families and people from church and would have them come to our house in shifts to be able to feed them all. She would enlist us kids and some of our neighbors to dress us up as Indians and pilgrims and serve the many that would come to eat. She also served as librarian at her church for many years and decorated the church auditorium for many events that they had. There really wasn’t much that she didn’t do or volunteer for. Her life was full and quite eventful. She loved going to church and loved singing hymns. She loved it so much she taught herself piano so that she could play the old hymns and sing at home. For a while she even took violin lessons with some of her grandchildren. One thing that everyone knew about her was that she loved the Lord. She and a neighbor would have morning coffee and hold a prayer meeting in her home for several years. I’m sure anyone in the family who got to spend any time with her would know that her greatest wish is that all of her children and grandchildren would come to know Christ. Like any family there were ups and downs, good times and bad times but through it all she always found a way to inject God into the situation. She passed away peacefully as a resident at the Azalea apartments in Waldenburg Village.
