Roy Allen Nesom passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 21, 2024 surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Nesom was born and raised in Laurel, MS. He moved to Gretna, LA in 1964. After serving in the Army, Mr. Nesom started working full-time for The Times-Picayune in 1967 as a truck driver and worked up the ranks before retiring as the Circulation Transportation Manager in 2001. Retirement didn’t last long, however, as he then started the Nesom Bookkeeping and Tax Service, worked as the House Manager and officiated funerals for Mothe Funeral Homes, and was asked to be the Circulation Consultant for the New Orleans Advocate in 2012. Mr. Nesom was a devout Christian, and an active member of Christ Baptist Church of Harvey. He was a Deacon in the Church and taught Sunday School and Bible Study. Mr. Nesom loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and the little nieces and nephews. He liked to watch sports, especially his Atlanta Braves and New Orleans Saints. Mr. Nesom also enjoyed spending time watching old comedies and westerns on television with his wife, and adored listening to Christian music. He loved to sing, especially Hymns and Gospel music and he loved the Gaither Homecoming Specials. Mr. Nesom was a loving husband, father, Paw-Paw, brother, brother-in-law, Uncle, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly Jean Roberts Nesom; two daughters, Nina Nesom Liner (Jerry) and Tamara Nesom Welch (Glenn, III); two grandchildren, Megan Storey Welch and Glenn Paul Welch, IV; and one sister, Alice Berner. Also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his Father and Mother, the late Richard Mobley Nesom and the late Rose Leona Blackledge Nesom; by his sisters, the late Emily Bengston, Annette Lott, Fleta Harvey, and Olivia Meyers; and by his brother, the late Fr. Richard Nesom. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Service on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 11am at Christ Baptist Church, 3000 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey, LA. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the church from 10am until 11am. Family and friends may view and sign the online guest book at www.mothefunerals.com.
