Ronald “Ronnie” LaPorte, a lifelong New Orleanian and family patriarch died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023. He was 82.
Ronnie was born October 25, 1940 in New Orleans and grew up Uptown, where he graduated from St. Aloysius High School before he attended Louisiana State University and eventually became a New Orleans Police Department officer in the 1960s.
He frequented the Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots and other regional tracks throughout his life, where he used to love to watch and bet on races. Later in life, Ronnie was a businessman, but his most sincere passion was always his family, especially his wife of 51 years, Peggy. Ronnie especially enjoyed traveling, mostly to the beach, with his family.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents Wallace LaPorte and Margaret Russo LaPorte. He is survived by his wife, Peggy LaPorte, his children, Ronald LaPorte, Jr., Robbie LaPorte, Robin “Sissy” LaPorte Cathcart (Jeff) and Ronell LaPorte (Maressa), his grandchildren, Amber Cathcart Vasquez (Jonathan), Chloe Laporte and Luke Laporte, as well as his great-grandson Mason Vasquez.
Ronnie will be dearly missed by friends, family and loved ones and remembered most as the loving man he was. His family would like to offer a special thanks to Guardian Angel Hospice. Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home at 7040 Lapalco Blvd. Marrero, LA 70072
