Ronald Gerard Cantin entered into eternal rest into God’s loving arms on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. He was born in New Orleans on July 12, 1936 to the late Marguerite Silver Cantin and the late Benjamin Joseph Cantin, Jr. As a native of Algiers, Louisiana, Ronald attended both St. Joseph and Holy Name of Mary Catholic Schools. After graduation high school he attended LSU and SLU. In September of 1955 he began working at Chevron Chemical in Belle Chasse for 42 years and retired in 1997. After retirement he worked security for the City of Gretna Police Department.
Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 69 and a half years, Grace Gattuso Cantin. Ronald was a wonderful father of Ronald G. Cantin, Jr. (Michele), Randolph “Randy” G. Cantin (Rebecca), and René G. Cantin. He was the proud grandfather of Ronald G. Cantin, III (Gretchen), Renzo G. Cantin (Jade), Kristen C. Lieber (Ben), Christopher G. Cantin (Ashton), and Jennifer Sims (Jamey). Great-grandfather of Rowan G. Cantin, Sawyer G. and Olive “Ollie” Lieber, Luca G. and Leighton R. Cantin, Jasmine S. Svensson (Zach), and Jaytin Sims. Great-great-grandfather of Hunter Sims. Brother of Benjamin J. Cantin, III and the late Richard P. Cantin (Jeannette). Also survived by his brother-in-law Philip A. Gattuso (the late Roberta), sister-in-law Mattie G. Macaluso (the late Joseph); as well as, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the Doctors and nurses at Touro Hospital, West Jefferson Medical Center, Tulane, University Medical Center, St. Michaels Home Health, and Guardian Angels Hospice for their care of Ronald. A very special thank you to Allison Carter.
Relatives, friends as well as the members of the Knights of Columbus 1905, Gretna Italian-American Society, Chevron Employees, Gretna Police Department, his "Swinging Set" golf friends, and the parishioners of St. Anthony Church-Gretna and St. Joseph Church- Gretna are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 1PM at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 925 Monroe St., in Gretna, LA. Visitation will begin at 11:30AM. Internment will follow at Hope Mausoleum, 4841 Canal St., in New Orleans, LA.
