Obituary

Roberto Ramirez, known to everyone as “ Pop” passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the age of 97. He was born in Progresso, Honduras, on August 14, 1928 to Rita Gregoria Ramirez.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Haydee Ramirez, his children, Robert Ramirez (Carol), Eddy Ramirez (Rebecca), Veronica Walker (Todd), and Maryann Rivere (Todd); his grandchildren Robert Ramirez, Ariel Ramirez, Brittaney Holley, Nicholas Walker (Ashley), Grant Holley (Lexi), Mitchel Holley, Zachary Walker, Paul Ramirez (Rhiannon), Jordan Ramirez (Katie), Abigail Beraud (Chad), Luke Ramirez (Zoie), Blair Champagne (Alexa), Emily Montgomery (Sam), and Megan Rivere and great-grandchildren Jacob Holley, Carter Holley, McKenzie Holley, Paxton Holley, Sophia Walker, Layla Lobre, Wyatt Champagne, Cade Champagne, John Beraud, Lucy Beraud, Ezra Beraud, Max Ramirez. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, cousins, future great-grandbabies, and wonderful lifelong friends.

Pop was a proud resident of the city of Gretna for over 50 years, and had a successful career as a chef with the U.S. Merchant Marines for 30 years.

Pop was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to everyone he knew. He enjoyed dancing, listening to music, working with his many tools, gardening and riding his bike. However, his true passion was cooking and spending time with his loving family. He was a truly special man, who brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. Pop was irreplaceable and well respected, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His cheerful, happy spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of his cherished friends and family.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the outstanding care provided by Vital Caring Hospice.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Sunday, 7/26/2026 at the Mel Ott Multipurpose Center, 2301 Belle Chase Hwy in Gretna, from 3:00 - 6:00 pm.
