Emblem

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Smith Jr., a cherished father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He passed away on September 21, 2024, at University Hospital in New Orleans, just days shy of his 66th birthday. Born on September 25, 1958, in New Orleans, LA, Robert lived a life rich with experience. For over 30 years, Robert dedicated himself to his career as a truck driver for Packard Truck Lines, forging friendships and earning the respect of many through his hard work and dependable nature. His contributions to the world of transportation were significant, and he took great pride in his role, often sharing tales of the diverse places he visited and the people he met along the way.

Before embarking on his long career, Robert honorably served in the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1982. His military service shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of discipline and honor that stayed with him throughout his life.

A man of varied interests, Robert had a profound love for riding his Harley Davidson embracing the freedom of the open road. He cherished participating in poker runs that supported Children's Hospital. He had a passion for adventure, but the real treasures of his life were found in the little moments shared with his family.

Robert leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted daughter, Tanya Lacey (Travis), and his beloved sisters, Teresa Douglas (Richard) and Kitty Penaranda (Robert). He was a proud grandfather to Jeff Lacey, Seth Arabie, Daisy Mae Lacey, and Robert Lacey, who all held a special place in his heart. Additionally, he leaves behind cherished nephews, Bobby Douglas (Sarah) and Stephen Chambers (Staci), and their children.

Robert is preceded in death by his father, Robert Smith Sr., his mother, Gloria Lapeyrolerie (Frank), and his great niece, Abigail Douglas. Their spirits live on in the memories held by those who loved him.

A viewing will take place on September 30, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mothe Funeral Homes, LLC, located at 1300 Vallette St, New Orleans, LA. A funeral service will follow from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the same location, leading to his interment at Westlawn Memorial Park starting at 1:15 PM.
