Rita Mae Phillip Bernard

Rita Mae Phillip Bernard joined her Lord and Savior in Heaven on June 6, 2017 at the age of 73 years. Beloved wife of 53 years to David P. Bernard Sr. Mother of David P. Bernard Jr. (Lorie) and Nicole B. Grosch (Chad). Grandmother of Jaron, Megan, Reece, David III and Chad II. Great-grandmother of Demi. Sister of A.J. Phillip Sr. (Beverly), the late Peter Phillip Jr. (the late Sharon) and Rose Phillip. Daughter of the late Peter Phillip Sr. and Rita Gambino Phillip. Also survived by other loving relatives and friends.
As a devout Catholic, Rita Mae served not only her home parish of Our Lady of the Angels, but neighboring Church communities of Holy Guardian Angels, St. Mark’s and Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Churches and was especially proud to share her talents with the St. Joseph’s Altar. She was a founding member of the Waggaman Good Timers Carnival Club. As a woman of deep faith, she raised her family and guided them in God’s path. She always found the good in everyone and would never hesitate to help those in need. She will be sadly missed but her life and legacy will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 6851 River Road in Waggaman on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 11 AM to 2 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment will take place in the Church Cemetery.
