Richard Earl Schrieffer

July 14, 1933 — May 14, 2017

Richard Earl Schrieffer was born in New Orleans on July 14, 1933. He was the beloved husband of Janice Hezeau Schrieffer for 52 years. He passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017. Richard was the son of Theresa Schelsky Schrieffer and Harold Peter Schrieffer. He was predeceased by three brothers, Calvin, Howard and Harold Schrieffer, Jr. and sister-in-law, Mabel Schrieffer. Richard was the proud father of two sons, Richard E. Schrieffer, Jr. and Kevin P. Schrieffer. Brother-in-law of Brenda Nicholson and her late husband, Dave Nicholson. He graduated from Fortier High School and Delgado’s four-year Technical College. Richard was a veteran and served his country in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. He was an electrician and former Assistant Business Manager with the IBEW, Local 130 and former President of the Home Association. He was a lifetime member and longest active member of Salem United Church of Christ. Richard was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 218. He also worked at the Naval Support Activity in Algiers as a foreman of Public Works. He enjoyed dancing, gardening, collecting classic automobiles and could repair just about anything that was broken. He was a member of Classic Mustang Association and Costal Cruisers. Richard was immeasurably loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a generous and kind-hearted person who was always willing to help anyone in need of his help. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Salem United Church of Christ, 4212 Camp Street, New Orleans, LA from 10AM until 12 Noon on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Funeral Services will begin at 12 Noon with Rev. Malcom Richard officiating. Interment will be in All Saints Mausoleum, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA. MOTHE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
