Richard Joseph Bourgeois passed away at home on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the age of 88. Richard, or “Dickie,” as he was known by his loved ones, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and resided in Marrero, Louisiana, and Sandy Hook, Mississippi.

Richard was the son of the late Louis Felicien Bourgeois and Beatrice LeBlanc Bourgeois of Marrero, Louisiana. Richard is the devoted husband of 65 years of Emma Nell Bourgeois, honoring her, caring for her, and choosing her daily. Father of Kelly B. Turnbough (Michael) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Travis L. Bourgeois of New Orleans, Louisiana. Grandfather of Tyler H. Turnbough, Trevor R. Turnbough (Mara), and Gabrielle E Turnbough. Great-grandfather of Elle and Mabel Turnbough.

Richard is the brother of Carolyn B. Victoriano (Gregory), Alan J. Bourgeois (Gwen), and the late Alden J. Bourgeois (Emily). He is also survived by numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and family friends in Louisiana, Mississippi, and North Carolina.

Richard was a loving, caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a true man of faith. He was a parishioner of Visitation of Our Lady Church in Marrero, which he helped to found, a recipient of the Order of Saint Louis, a member of the Saint Thomas Moore Council (7226) of the Knights of Columbus, and a Fourth Degree Knight. He was a lifelong and avid hunter and sportsman, and loved taking care of the family property in Sandy Hook, Mississippi, where he had multiple close friends and relatives.

He leaves us with decades of wonderful memories and will be terribly missed. He has made us all the better in having known him, and benefited from his love, friendship, kindness, wisdom, faith, and generosity.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of Richard J. Bourgeois to the Sandy Hook Baptist Church, 586 John Ford Home Road, Sandy Hook, Mississippi, 39478, or to the charity of your choosing.
