Rhea Marie Orgeron Roth passed away peacefully, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 8, 2017. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Lipton Roth; parents, Edmond Orgeron Sr. and Ada LeBlanc Orgeron; brothers and sisters, Edmond Orgeron Jr. (Rose), Edwin Orgeron, Raymond Orgeron (Daisy), Clarence “Bud” Orgeron (Audrey), Irene Falgout (Guy), Mabel Orgeron, Edith “Dee” Terrebonne (Evest), Ida Hebert (Ervin), Dolores “Chuckie” Hebert (L.J.).
Survived by her loving children, Stephen Roth (Sherdran) and Kathy Jones (Billy); grandchildren, Kristen and Cullen (Natalie); step-granddaughter, Shantelle (Abel); great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Luke; sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Trosclair (the late Hayes), Clara Trupiano (the late Jake) along with many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
She was born in Larose, LA and moved to Harvey, LA with her family at 18 years of age. The challenges and demands of living on a farm with eleven siblings made her extremely proud of her Cajun French heritage.
Her devoted husband David of 64 years was the love of her life. Their commitment and loyalty to each other became only more evident as she cared for her spouse during his sickly later years.
Some favorite pastimes included sewing, dancing, reading, watching old movies on TV, walking in the neighborhood, cooking Cajun dishes (the “best” seafood gumbo), fulfilling religious duties, and participating in both her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.
She proudly made her two children the focus of her life, as she sacrificed to offer them the best education, support and endearment only a mother could provide. She retired to assist in the care of her grandchildren, Kristen and Cullen. They fondly called her “Maw Maw” and she loved them so dearly.
She was a devout Catholic who embraced her faith with a deep love for Christ that she embodied from her own spiritual parents. She nurtured her family, worked diligently and readily offered help to those in need, especially when care was required for many of her ill brothers, sisters, and their spouses.
Her profound religious commitment, high moral standards, and love of God and family made a tremendous impact on all that she knew and we are eternally grateful for the beautiful life she displayed and permanent lessons taught.
Many heartfelt thanks are bestowed upon Notre Dame Hospice, especially Chrishana, Tamika, and Frances for their attentive care and support. The kind help of nieces Jayne and Godchild Susie for their “Nanny” was so appreciated. Caregiviers Anna and “Peaches” were so valuable. Many prayers and acts of kindness were offered by friends and these acts of charity and affection will forever be cherished. A special accolade to her granddaughter Kristen who readily and lovingly provided such attentive care to her dear grandmother.
We pray that she may be at peace in Heaven, embraced by the loving arms of God. We sincerely thank her Savior for His true Blessings of such a loving daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, wife, friend, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother in our lives. Amen.
In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation to your favorite charity.
