Refa Dixon Hogue passed away on April 15 after a sudden cardiac event at the age of 86. Born and raised in Oklahoma, Refa married Charles C. Hogue and the couple settled in New Orleans, living there for 53 years until his death after 62 years of marriage. She was devoted to her husband and her family. Refa will be fondly remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She is survived by 2 sons: Charles B. Hogue and his wife Laura, and James W. Hogue and his wife Julia, as well as 6 grandchildren: Jason, Ethan, Stephen, Amanda, Emily and Katie.
Refa passionately loved to sew. Besides the clothing and gifts she made for family and friends, she was a Bishop Sewing and a Machine Embroidery Instructor for many years. Additionally she taught seminars in 20 states as well as Costa Rica. Refa was the author of 2 sewing books and just recently, taught sewing courses online. One of her achievements was to design and create the center block for the 1984 World's Fair Quilt hanging in the LA State Museum. Another of her passions was the church as both a member and Sunday School teacher at Oak Park Baptist Church for many years. Her love for the Lord and His people was evident.
Visitation will be held at Eastern Shore Presbyterian Church, Fairhope AL on Friday, April 21st at 9 am with the funeral to follow at 10 am.
A viewing in New Orleans will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey LA from 3 pm until 3:45 pm. Interment will be at Westlawn Cemetery for family members only at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Charles Hogue Scholarship Fund" at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary at 3939 Gentilly Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70126.
