Raymond "Papa Ray" Griffin, Sr.

November 12, 1949 — January 13, 2024

Raymond “Papa Ray” Griffin Sr. was welcomed into the gates of heaven by his beloved late wife Jacqueline Cochiara Griffin and late son Rhett Griffin.

On January 13, 2024 at the age of 74, he passed away peacefully at his home. He was a native of New Orleans and resided in Lafitte for the past 39 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas A Griffin Sr. and Dorothy Suarez Griffin. Brother of the late Shirley, Thomas Jr., Jerome Sr., David “Cookie”, Gary, and Donald Sr. Father of Brandi Griffin, Mandi Griffin, Raymond Griffin Jr. (Kristy), and Tracy Brignac. Grandfather of Abbi, Alli, Laila, Brhett, Whitney, Mason, Conner, and Cambre. Brother of Elaine, Ronald Sr., Doris, Steven Sr. “BB”, Cynthia and Linda. Godfather of Ricky Griffin and Elaine Dantin. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Ray was a proud Vietnam Combat Veteran! He received several awards for his service to his country. He was the proprietor of Griffin Automotive and Griffin Marine in Westwego, LA.  He also was the owner of Cocharia’s Marina and Griffin’s Bar in Lafitte, LA. He excelled in mechanics, allowing him to prosper in his businesses and build his own dragster. This led to his passion for competitive racing while in the National Hot Rod Association. He also enjoyed hunting and loved to cook and have a cocktail while talking about it all.  His personality was larger than life itself.  He will forever be remembered for his generosity and love for everyone. Ray will be missed by many and his legacy will live on forever.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Boulevard, Marrero, LA on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 8am to 1pm. A Funeral Mass will follow in the funeral home chapel. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna.
