Raymond Patrick Donahue II, a proud New Orleans native with an infectious laugh and a heart as big as his beloved city, was born on July 2, 1946. He peacefully passed into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and unforgettable stories. Mr. Donahue lived in Gretna, LA.
He was the cherished son of the late Raymond Patrick Donahue Sr., and Margy Moll Donahue. For 55 devoted years, he was the loving husband and steadfast partner of Ann Rosamano Donahue. Raymond was a devoted father to Heather Ledoux, the late Raymond Donahue III, and Randy Donahue—a role he carried with deep pride and boundless affection. He delighted in the laughter and adventures of his grandchildren: Santana Holland, Daryl Ann Ledoux, Skylan Ledoux, Riley Donahue, and Reaghan Donahue, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Raymond was also a supportive brother to Ray Esther Reisman and June Donahue Blackburn, and he leaves behind a circle of cousins, nieces, and nephews whose lives he touched with warmth and wisdom.
A man of deep faith and vibrant community spirit, Raymond was a member of Holy Name of Mary Church and proudly celebrated his Irish heritage with the Algiers Irish Association. His dedication to service extended to his country; he served honorably in the Navy as a member of Attack Squadron Eighty-One, earning the National Defense Service Medal. After his military service, Raymond found his calling on the river, guiding vessels as a Tugboat Captain and Engineer at Crescent Towing for 47 years, always embracing the camaraderie and excitement of life on the water. He found joy in helping others—whether lending a hand to a friend or volunteering in his community—but nothing brought him more happiness than gathering with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, and sharing stories that inspired laughter and love.
A celebration of Raymond’s remarkable life will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Holy Name of Mary Church, 400 Vallette Street, Algiers, LA. Loved ones and friends are invited to the visitation from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment will immediately follow at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1255 Whitney Ave, Gretna, LA.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Krewe de Pink (krewedepink.org), a charity that raises awareness and funds for breast cancer research, a cause that was close to home and that he supported with great enthusiasm.
Mothe Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family invites you to share your favorite stories, fondest memories, and heartfelt condolences online at www.MotheFunerals.com.
