Obituary

Phyllis Jane Dicken Sikes passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026, at Woldenberg Village. A native of New Orleans, Jane was born on October 16, 1939, to the late Phyllis Kathryn and Raymond Dicken.

Jane graduated from John McDonogh Senior High School as Valedictorian. In high school she met Daniel Burk Sikes. Eventually, they married and celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage. Jane graduated from one of the first nursing classes at Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She was known as a caring and compassionate nurse by hospital colleagues and patients. Later in her career Jane graduated from University of New Orleans with a Master of Nursing Degree and became a proficient diabetes educator in the greater New Orleans area.

Jane and Dan raised 3 children, and they enjoyed tent camping, scouts, and church activities. Jane and Dan also enjoyed traveling around the world and made friends throughout the countries they visited. Faith, family, and friends were without a doubt among Jane’s passions.

Jane’s most unforgettable attributes are her illuminating smile and sparkle in her eyes that would welcome you with acceptance. Knowing she was quick to worry because she cared, Jane was often heard saying, “Let Go and Let God!” Jane’s witness through these words are among the profound words we will miss hearing Jane share.

Jane is preceded in death by her beloved husband, her best friend, Daniel Burk Sikes; and her brother Donald Ray Dicken.

Jane is survived by her brother William A. Dicken (Debra) of Harvey, Louisiana; daughters Dawn S. Liphart of Jacksonville, Florida; Joy S. McGraw (David) of Natchitoches, Louisiana; and her son Danny R. Sikes (Briana) of Destrehan, Louisiana. Jane is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the outstanding care provided by Jane’s caregivers, “Jane’s Angels” Hope, Noreen, Martha, Deborah, and Kathrene. Thank you to the staff at Woldenberg Villages for their loving compassionate care of Jane. Thank you to Passages Hospice for their caring support of Jane in her final days.

In lieu of flowers please kindly consider contributions in memory of Jane to her church, Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church.
