P.W. Richard

February 1, 1936 — May 4, 2025

Our beloved, Lt. P.W. Richard, passed away on May 4, 2025. Husband of the late Genevieve "Jenny" Richard for 60 years. Father of Chris J. Richard (Laura), Sheila R. Breaux (Chris). Grandfather of Leonardo "Lenny" Richard, Amanda Breaux Petit (Mark), Richard Breaux (Krystal), Allison Breaux (Fiancé' Joshua Mangold). Great Grandfather of Gabriel Richard, Eve Petit, Mary Petit and Bennett Breaux. Former Grand-Daughter-in-Law, Cristiana Avellan.

Son of the late Vannie and Corrine Boudreaux Richard. Brother of the late Lawrence "Jimmy” Richard (Dot), Sterling "Buddy" Richard (Francis), Vernell "Chookie" Dominique (Ludie), Hilda Comardelle (Harry), Paul Richard (Francis), Earl "Bootsie" Richard, Kenneth Richard and Mary Richard. His former Sister-In-Law, the late Iva Addison, who always held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his Sister-In-Law, Cecile Guillot Richard and many nieces and nephews, who affectionately referred to him as "Uncle Skeet". He was known by his childhood friends from old Gretna as "Skidoo". He will be missed by his wonderful neighbors Al and Yvonne Bonvillian, Rachel Terreborne, and Nancy Vegas.

Lt. P.W. Richard was employed as a deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office for 52 years beginning in 1965 under Sheriff Cronvich. During his tenure with the Sheriff's Office, he worked under Sheriff Harry Lee and Sherriff Newell Normand.

"P.P.P. W" as he was known among his co-workers due a speech impediment that caused him to stutter. Although his impediment was challenging, he handled it with his unique and ever-present sense of humor.

P.W. loved his family, his Catholic faith and being a Police Officer. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the importance of integrity, honesty, and working hard. His belief that no matter how small the job or paycheck, you always do your very best, even if no one is watching, is something his children and grandchildren will carry with them.

He will be missed for the laughter he provided to all who knew him. Mostly, he will be missed for his loyalty to his friends and family. He was a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend. He was the role model and true patriarch of his Family.

Lt. P. W. Richard was a member of Immaculata Knights of Columbus Council 4222 and former Grand Knight of St. Joseph the Worker Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Marrero Lion's Club.

His family wishes to thank all those who visited and prayed for P.W. for the past few weeks. The family also appreciates the care provided by the staff of Peristyle House of Jefferson (Old Jefferson Gardens Assistance Living Center).
