Peter Ulysse Prevost passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Florence Haydel Prevost. Ulysse was born on October 8, 1927, on the Haydel family farm in Ashton, Louisiana, where he spent a rich childhood doted on by grandparents, aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins.
Pete attended Texas A&M and Soulé business school. At Soulé, he met Merell Thomas, a beautiful brunette typing teacher who would become his bride. Together they became the parents of fraternal twins, Karen Prevost Sauzer (George) and Kenneth Prevost, who were soon followed by son James Michael Prevost. Many years later, the family was completed with the addition of daughter Jeanne Prevost Cohen (Jonathan.) Sadly, Pete was preceded in death by first his son James Michael, and later, his wife Merell.
Pete worked for Continental Can Company, IC Electric, finally retiring from OxyChem. He remained friends with many of his coworkers and enjoyed attending retiree Christmas parties and crawfish boils at Oxy.
When he retired, Granddaddy Pete bought a Suburban to carry around his growing herd of grandchildren: Erin Sauzer Hymel (Jean Paul), Megan Sauzer Harms (Lucas), Lauren Sauzer Dunn (Andrew), Gregory James Sauzer (Catie), Braedon M.S. Cohen (Bailey), Bryce David Cohen (Genevieve), and Branagh Michael Cohen (Dana). They will always remember holidays, beach trips, and going to the Alamo with Granddaddy. Granddaddy Pete was also the great-grandfather of 15.
Pete spent his last years between the homes of his three children, where he would arrive knowing exactly which restaurants he wanted. He later moved into Ashton Manor assisted living, where he enjoyed card games, arts and crafts, exercise class, and themed socials. He spent his final months at Luling Living Center. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at LLC for keeping him comfortable during his final weeks. Special thanks to Pat and Mona for watching over him at night.
