Peggy Gegenheimer Durkes
October 3, 1951 — December 7, 2017
Peggy Gegenheimer Durkes passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, December 7, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 66 years of age.
She was the cherished wife of 43 years to Joel Durkes; loving daughter of Edna Gegenheimer and the late Pat Gegenheimer; sister of Gay Korndorffer (Chris) and sister-in-law of Noel Durkes. She is also survived by three nephews, Chad, Jason and Scott and many other loving aunts, uncle, cousins and dear friends. Peggy was an employee of Louisiana Power & Light, Co. (Entergy) for 38 years. She truly enjoyed life and possessed strong faith, strength, perseverance and an ability to overcome incredible odds. Her faith and courage is a reminder that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Richard Klein and his staff, the staff on the Chemo Unit, 5th Floor of the Benson Cancer Research Center and Dr. Melissa Montgomery for the extraordinary care and compassion shown to Peggy and to the family.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Monday, December 11, 2017 from 9 AM to 11 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow in the funeral home chapel. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park.
