Paul Turner Buras, Sr.

April 18, 1942 — April 7, 2023

Paul Turner Buras Sr. at the age of 80 years old departed his life on Friday April 7th, 2023 at West Jefferson Hospital and fought heroically to the end. He was a life long native of Boothville, Louisiana and Postmaster with the United States Postal Service and retired on April 1st, 2007 with 42 years of service. The Beloved husband of Manuela Buras for 50 years and devoted father of Paul Turner Buras Jr, Allen Howard Buras (Melissa) and Grandfather to Allen Jr, Alex, Alden, Alissa and Jacob Rhodes. Preceded in death by his parents Angus Joseph Buras, Elizabeth Antha Howze Buras, brothers Angus Joseph Buras Jr (Martha), Cecil Allen Buras (Vivian), and surviving brother Larry Buras (Carolyn).
He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and devoted friends; especially Jim and Janelle Boyd. Our family can’t be thankfully enough for all the good times father and mother had spending time with Jim and Janelle. From family get togethers, Vegas trips, to drinking coffee on the back porch, they were loved tremendously and he thought of them as a brother and sister.
As a young man, he worked at the Venice Movie theater and operated the movie projector, sold popcorn, and took tickets. He loved his grandchildren and spending time with them at their sporting events and ceremonies. He enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, playing the guitar, singing songs and taking his family on adventures. He took us on vacations, Saints games, trips, camping and so much more. One of the best things that happened to him was meeting and falling in love with his wife. They were happily married for 50 years. He loved her so much and he did everything for her and her family. He always liked to joke around and play tricks with people and one of his favorite things he would tell his wife was, “shut up and come give me a kiss.”
Paul was happy-go-lucky and loved by the community and friendly with everyone he met. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. Just like his mom (Elizabeth), he had “friends in both places”. He always loved being around people and serving the community. He was an active member of the Lions Club and he would dress up as Santa Claus for the Plaquemines Parish Orange festival and other events.
Our dad always said, “if you met one true friend in your life you were lucky” He was the epitome of a true husband and father supposed to be and we were lucky to have him. He will be deeply missed. Visitation will be at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, La on April 14th, 2023 from 8:00am and funeral services at 10:00am. After the funeral, burial will be held at Our Lady of Good Harbor Cemetery, Buras, La. Family and friend may express condolences at https://www.mothefunerals.com/obituaries
