Patrick Ashley McKeon

Patrick Ashley McKeon, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 5, 2026, at the age of 60. Born on March 31, 1966, in New Orleans, Patrick’s life was deeply shaped by Louisiana's "Sportman's Paradise", which instilled in him an abiding love and appreciation for the outdoors.

He attended Holy Cross High School and continued his education at Louisiana Tech University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. His academic journey was more than just a pursuit of knowledge; it was a reflection of his desire to understand, protect, and live harmoniously with the land and wildlife he loved so deeply.

Patrick’s early years were spent in New Orleans, where his connection to nature quickly became evident. From a young age, he developed a profound respect for the environment and the wild spaces of his home state, a trait often described as transcendentalist in nature. This unique bond with the natural world guided many of his pursuits and life decisions.

A passionate sportsman, Patrick found joy, challenge, and camaraderie in the great outdoors. He was an enthusiastic fisherman and hunter, delighting in the unique experiences Louisiana had to offer. For many years, he cherished participating in the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo with his “padners,” securing a memorable first place in the Galftop category in 1988. Fishing and duck hunting with his friends were among his favorite pastimes, but perhaps nothing thrilled him more than the pursuit of wild pigs. His adventurous spirit also led him to enjoy snorkeling and spearfishing in Belize and the Florida Keys.

Patrick’s interests extended beyond the outdoors. He was deeply passionate about history, finding inspiration and fascination in the stories and lessons of the past. He was also a devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints.

His life’s journey took him beyond Louisiana; he lived in Florida, Belize, and Vietnam, each place leaving its mark on him. Though he roamed far, his heart stayed closely tied to family and to the wild landscapes that shaped him.

Patrick is survived by his mother, Elinor Galan McKeon; his siblings, David McKeon, Elizabeth McKeon and Jennifer Vath and his sister-in-law Michele McKeon, his cherished nieces and nephew, Alix Vath, Kelsey Vath, and Joshua Vath. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. McKeon, as well as Fugi and Brittle, his beloved dogs

His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Chris Hoz, Chris Cahill, Nga Le and Jeri Hart Naquin for providing comfort and support to Patrick. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on August 29, 2026 at 11:00AM.
