Patricia "Patsy" Doiron Gomez

August 14, 1939 — December 6, 2022

Patricia (Patsy) Doiron Gomez passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her husband and children on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at the age of 83. She was a native of Bayou Goula, LA and was raised in White Castle, LA and was a longtime resident of Terrytown, LA. Patsy was preceded in death by two sons, Brian and Bruce, her parents, Freddie J. Doiron, Sr. and Jessie Falcon Doiron, as well as three brothers, Ludrich, Freddie Jr., and Lynn Doiron. Patsy is survived by her husband of 66 years, Emile J. Gomez, as well by her daughters, Paige O’Flynn and Judy O’Flynn (Dennis), and her son, Brad Gomez (Angelle) of Tallahassee, FL. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Mary Francis “Tee” Toups. She was an adoring grandmother to Jill Traczewitz (Ryan), Courtney O’Flynn, Jesse O’Flynn, Scott O’Flynn (Ashley), Jacob Gomez, Evan Gomez and great-grandchildren, Lauren, Adam, and Josie Traczewitz, Kelsey and Riley O’Flynn, and Natalie and Elise O’Flynn.
When her children were in school, Patsy was deeply involved as a room mother at Christ the King Catholic School in Terrytown and St. Julian Eymard Catholic School in Algiers, LA. She was also a dedicated parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church since 1964. For many years, she was a lector at Mass and was a Minister of Communion to the sick. She was co-director of the Catholic Youth Ministry (CYM) at Christ the King, where she founded a youth clown ministry troupe. The clowns ministered to the sick at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans and were a common presence at many Archdiocesan events. In 1987, the troupe paraded inside the Superdome for Pope John Paul II—this was one of her most cherished memories. Patsy taught Confirmation to the teenagers in the church parish for many years and was a sponsor to several converts to the Catholic faith. She was active in the parish’s Women’s Club, Renew and Small-based Church programs, and was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. In the 1980’s, she briefly served on the Board at Padua House, a residential program of children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. In 1990, Patsy was a recipient of the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion honoring lay persons that contribute their time and talents to the Catholic Church.
Patsy lived a life of faith, filled with intense love and compassion. She will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved her.The family expresses its sincere appreciation to Guardian Angel Hospice, especially her nurse, Maria Ruiz, Darlene Blanda, her part-time sitter, and Faye Gomez, her sister-in-law, who lovingly assisted the family with Patsy’s care.
