On Friday, July 17th, Myra Collura Rogers, passed away at the age of 78 in her home of 43 years. Born and raised in Marrero, her adventures took her to Pennsylvania and Texas before coming back home to Louisiana. Having earned her Masters degree in Education from Penn State, she worked for the Jefferson Parish School system as a special education teacher and diagnostician until her retirement. Her love of learning continued with her acquiring certifications in her varied fields of interest, including becoming a local pioneer in the field of Auditory Integration Training, and as a licensed real estate agent. She loved the arts, including music, theater, and dance, and encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue their artistic talents. Known by all as a loving and empathetic woman, she exemplified what her parents showed her about taking care of family and expanded it to include any she thought needed her help, giving of herself freely and selflessly. Proud of her French and Sicilian heritage, she enjoyed researching her family genealogy, along with many local and family traditions. She took great joy in attending St. Joseph Altars, perfecting her family recipe of Cuccidati (Italian Fig Cookies) and gathering with family to enjoy a plate of spaghetti on Sundays. She leaves behind her loving husband of 52 years, Wm. David Rogers, and her beloved children, Summer Rogers Cook and Wm. Austin Rogers. She was an extremely involved and proud grandmother to Mia Rogers, Kathryn MIller and Kalel Cook. She also leaves behind her siblings Anthony Collura (Cheryl), Dale Collura Majorie (Danny), and Janel Collura Ockman (Mel) whom she cared deeply for, along with her aunts and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mike J. Collura and LulaMay Simoneaux Collura, and numerous aunts and uncles.
