Mollie Clause Ballay entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the age of 92. Loving and devoted wife of the late Robert Paul Ballay, Sr. for 44 years. Beloved daughter of the late Gus J. Clause and Mathilde Berthelotte Clause. Loving mother of Joan B. Sharp (Dennis), Jane B. Legendre (Charles) and the late Robert P. Ballay, Jr. Grandmother of Renee Sharp Yesso (Justin), Rachel Sharp Wilson (David), Matthew Sharp, Oneal Legendre (Tiffany), Michael Legendre (Kelsey), Ryan Ballay (Ashlin), Rachelle Ballay (Christian) and Joshua Ballay. Great Grandmother of Gabriel, Paige, Shaleigh, Ellis, Owen, Arthur, Hattie, Isabel, Kylan and Amari. Sister of the late Royal Clause, Odell C. Bergeron and Bonnie R. LeCompte. Mollie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mollie loved many things: painting, cooking, gardening, crafting, traveling, LSU sports, and spending time with her grandchildren at Orange Beach, Alabama. Her Sunday dinners brought the family together weekly for decades. As a faithful Catholic, Mollie had a devoted prayer life, with prayer cards and rosaries always nearby. She was a retreat captain for The Cenacle retreat house for over 35 years.
Mollie lived her entire life in her beloved Algiers and was a proud Algierine. She was a lifelong parishioner of Holy Name of Mary Church and 1950 graduate of Martin Behrman High School. Her stories and ability to connect with people everywhere she went were her strengths.
This ability to connect with others carried over into her career. Mollie worked hard. From working in a bakery as a child, in a drug store as a young teen, to becoming the Housing Director for The Naval Support Activity, she could always do the job well because she could easily relate to Commanders as well as plumbers. She will be sorely missed by many.
Mollie was a longtime participant in the People Program, a member of the Westbank Art Guild, the Sultanas, the Behrman High School Reunion Committee, and the Federal Housing Managers Association.
The family would like to thank Our Lady of Wisdom Care Center and Notre Dame Hospice for their care in Mollie’s last months. Thank you also to Sherry Williams for her years of care in home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Algiers, La.
