With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Michelle Powell Moran, who entered eternal rest on June 18, 2026, at the age of 61, following a brief but courageous battle with illness. Michelle was born in Springfield, Illinois, and at the age of eight, her family relocated to Timberlane Estates, a suburb of New Orleans, Louisiana, where she spent her formative years and built the foundation of a life defined by compassion, service, and love for others. A devoted mother, daughter, sister, educator, and social worker, Michelle dedicated her life to making a difference. Throughout her career in the Jefferson and Orleans Parish school systems, she served as both a social worker and teacher, touching the lives of countless students, families, and colleagues. Her kindness, patience, and unwavering commitment to helping others left an immeasurable impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She believed that every person deserved to be seen, heard, and supported, and she carried that belief into every aspect of her life. Outside of her profession, Michelle embraced life’s simple joys and greatest adventures. She loved listening to music, preparing meals for family and friends, and traveling whenever the opportunity arose. She dreamed of experiencing the many cultures, traditions, and languages that make our world so beautifully diverse. Her curiosity, adventurous spirit, and appreciation for people from all walks of life reflected the depth of her compassionate heart. To know Michelle was to know someone who gave without expecting anything in return. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Whether offering words of encouragement, lending a helping hand, or simply being present during life’s most difficult moments, she consistently placed the needs of others before her own. Her generosity, warmth, and quiet strength will forever remain an inspiration to those whose lives she touched. Although her illness progressed much more rapidly than anyone could have anticipated, Michelle faced each day with grace and resilience. While her family had hoped for more time together, they find comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on through the countless acts of kindness she shared and the many lives she helped shape. Michelle is lovingly survived by her mother, Rita Powell; her sisters, Cynthia Friend, Lori Stines, Gina Boudreaux, and Jamie Powell; her half-brother, Randall; and her beloved sons, Ali Monem and Michael Frederick Jr. She also leaves behind many cherished relatives, dear friends, former colleagues, students, and all those whose lives were enriched by her compassion and unwavering generosity. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and selflessly given. Michelle’s love, kindness, and servant’s heart will continue to live on in the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the family and friends who will carry her spirit forward. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy will never be forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Michelle’s life on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 5PM., followed by a Memorial Mass at the funeral home at 7PM. Visitation will resume after the Memorial Mass until 10PM. The family welcomes all who knew and loved Michelle to join them in honoring her life, sharing memories, and celebrating the remarkable woman she was.
