Michael Louis Martin, husband, father, attorney and teacher passed away at his home March 11, 2026 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born to the late Melva Williams Martin and William Howard Martin in 1954 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is survived by his wife, Desiree, children Nicole (Kevin), Kaitlyn, Caroline (Joshua), and William.
Michael attended St. Lawrence the Martyr in Metairie and was a proud graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School. He was awarded a Bachelor of Art in Education from the University of New Orleans and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law.
Michael taught at Archbishop Shaw and Chalmette High School and practiced law at several firms in the New Orleans area. He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, and reenacting historical events. He spent many years reenacting Civil War battles with the 18th US Infantry, and was a founder of Chalmette Battlefield’s living history tours. Michael was also a college football aficionado, tracking stats and watching nearly every game (whether he was cheering “Hotty Toddy” or “Geaux Tigers” was dependent on whichever child happened to be home).
Michael’s greatest joy was his family. He loved his wife and children fiercely. As his children grew, Michael enjoyed watching them pursue their passions and supported them at every step along the way.
Please join us in celebrating Michael’s life at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expy, Harvey, LA 70058, on Wednesday March 18; visitation at 10:30; Catholic mass at 1:30. The fellows of MAHAPTOS are hereby called into conclave ad loco et hora verbis et inter se annuntiatis.
