Michael Brehm entered eternal rest on Saturday July 15, 2023 at the age of 75 with his wife by his side. He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Harvey, La. Michael graduated from Cor Jesu High School and received a B.A. in Business Education from Nicholls State University. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Patricia May Brehm. He is also survived by his brothers Anthony Brehm Jr. (Rita) and Joseph Brehm (Mary), his sisters-in-law Catherine Piacun (Thomas) and Annette Schiro (Edward), and by his nieces and nephews Aline Piacun (John Dours), Lauren Schiro, Zachary Schiro, Toni Kohles, Leroy Brehm and Michelle Lee. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Brehm Sr. and Cecilia Folger Brehm, and by his sister-in-law, Patricia Hicks Brehm. Michael was a dedicated educator at Gretna Jr. High and Helen Cox High School. He always found great joy in seeing former students who succeeded and thanked him for teaching them. Michael was a devout Catholic and a very active member of the parish. Michael was a member of the St. John Bosco Knights of Columbus 10057, St. John Bosco Men’s Club, St. John Bosco Rosary Group, and served on the St. John Bosco Parish Council. He was a founding member of the St. John Bosco Adoration Chapel. In 2018, Michael was awarded the St. Louis Medallion for St. John Bosco Parish and was named Knights of Columbus St. John Bosco Council Knight of the year. Before his battle with Parkinson’s disease, he attended daily mass, often leading the rosary afterwards. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling and casino trips. He volunteered at Marrero Healthcare Center praying the rosary with the residents. He also enjoyed coffee and donuts with his longtime friend, John Veillon. The family wants to thank the staff of Woldenberg Skilled Nursing and Passages Hospice for their care and compassion in his final days. Michael’s caring spirit and generous heart could be felt by anyone he came in contact with. He was selfless and put others first. He will be missed more than words could express but he will be forever in our hearts till we meet again.
