Mercedes Alice Pellegrin Babin

Mercedes Alice Pellegrin Babin, born on March 16, 1931, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026.

To know Mercedes was to understand the true heart of a wonderful wife and mother. She created a home that was always full—of laughter, of stories, and most often, of family and friends gathered to share one of her lovingly prepared meals. Among Mercedes’s countless gifts was her unmatched New Orleans-style Gumbo, a dish that brought joy and comfort to many and became a symbol of togetherness in her home.

Mercedes is survived by those whose lives she so lovingly shaped: her children George L. Babin, Jr. (Kathy), Janel Bray, Sandy Hill (Danny), and Lois Eiermann (Tommy). Her legacy continues through the apples of her eye, her grandchildren—Timothy Babin, Wendy Bray, Brady Bray (D), Robert Hill, Chris Hill, and Evan Eiermann—and eight great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her spirit and resilient love. She now joins in peaceful rest her beloved husband, George L. Babin, Sr.; parents, Gillis Pellegrin and Nora Gallardo (Ernest); and siblings Francis C. Pellegrin, Laura 'Nell' Teuton, Preston J. Pellegrin, and Louis Pellegrin.

Family and friends will gather to honor Mercedes’s extraordinary life on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Marrero - Mothe Funeral Homes, LLC, 7040 Lapalco Blvd, Marrero, LA 70072, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. and concluding at 2:15 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Ave., Terrytown, LA 70056, thereafter.
