Maxwell Jerry Hinrichs, born on September 30, 1942 in New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, at the age of 83. He was a resident of Gretna for 54 years.
He is survived by his devoted son, Rodney M. Hinrichs (Nicole). Cherished memories will be carried on by his grandchildren Alex O. Rodrigue, Alexis M. Hinrichs, Rachel A. Hinrichs, and Owen O. Hinrichs, as well as many nieces and nephews who all benefited from Maxwell’s wisdom and steady presence.
Maxwell’s life was also marked by the deep bonds he shared with those who came before him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria D. Hinrichs, and his children, Maxwell J. Hinrichs, Jr. and Scott E. Hinrichs. The loss of his siblings—Bertha Heumann, Otto Hinrichs, Jr., Shirley Hinrichs, Gloria Guidry, Henry Hinrichs, Elaine Sorensen, Richard Hinrichs, Allen Hinrichs, Carol Braud, Linda Johnson, and Betty Held—reminds all who knew them of a family deeply rooted in love and mutual support.
Maxwell proudly served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade during the Vietnam War. He was a devoted husband and father who was always there for his family. Family meant everything to him, and he placed them above all else. He cherished spending time with his family and friends and found great joy in creating lasting memories together. He especially loved performing magic tricks for his sons, nieces, and nephews, bringing laughter and wonder to those he loved.
He had a passion for repairing and tinkering with antique slot machines, a hobby that reflected his curiosity and skill. He was known for his generous heart and his willingness to help anyone in need in any way he could. Whether it was family, friends, or neighbors, he was always ready to lend a helping hand. A true self-starter, he built and successfully ran his own electrical business, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and kindness. His son, Rodney, proudly followed in his footsteps, joining him in the family business and carrying on his work. He will be dearly missed.
