Maxie Guidry Camus

December 31, 1925 — December 9, 2016

Maxie Rita Guidry Camus crossed over peacefully surrounded by family on December 9, 2016. She was 90 years old. Loving mother of Karen (Jake), Glenn (Gail), Curtis (Lucinda), and the late Kathryn Camus. Grandmother of Lisa, Christopher (Anna), Amber (Patrick), and the late Millard Caruth III. Great grandmother of Kaden, Kenya, and Lilian. Sister of Herbert Guidry, and the late Emma Robert. Daughter of the late Samson and Mary Guidry. Also survived by many cousins and nieces and nephews. Maxie was born in Raceland, LA. She lived many years in Marrero, LA and later was a resident of Terrytown. She spent her final years at the St. Joseph Apartments in Gretna, where she had many dear friends. Maxie especially enjoyed the companionship of her neighbors Linda and Willie Boudreaux, and Sharon Boudreaux. She also really enjoyed the antics of Nila, her four-legged friend who belongs to Linda and Willie. Maxie's best friend at St. Joseph was Alice Lopez. They were very close and loved each other very much. Maxie was extremely intelligent and accomplished. She was valedictorian of her high school class. Maxie started working for Jefferson Parish as a clerk and was Director of the Purchasing Department when she retired. After she retired, Maxie did a lot of volunteer work. Her favorite hobbies were reading and working crossword puzzles. One thing many noted about Maxie was her extremely soothing voice. People loved talking to her, and especially valued her practical wisdom. The family would like to thank the staff at Canon Hospice for their loving kindness during Maxie's last days. Maxie was cremated and her ashes interred at Westlawn Cemetery by her family in a private ceremony.
