Max Newton Langston, 96, of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on November 9, 1928, in Smackover, Arkansas, Max was raised in Longview, Texas. In 1948, after receiving his associate’s degree from Kilgore Junior College, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. and proudly served during the Korean Conflict.
He made Louisiana his home in the mid-1950s, where he met the love of his life, Opal Gary Langston. The two shared 53 wonderful years of marriage until Opal’s passing in 2014.
A beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Max is survived by his children, Harry G. Thrailkill (Patricia) and Jo Lynn Delatte (Marshall Breedlove); his grandchildren, Jo Ann Thrailkill and Dana Juneau (Lonnie); his great-grandchildren, Jordan, Christopher, Grady, Barrett, Opal, and Reese; and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Della Gertrude Gorman Langston and Daniel Thomas Langston; his siblings, Grady, Louis, Harvey “Buck”, Ray, Betty, and Merle; his grandson, Harry; and great-grandsons, Alex and Pablo.
Max was known for his generous spirit, creative mind, and adventurous heart. He brought joy and laughter wherever he went and made lasting impressions on everyone he met. A trailblazing entrepreneur, Max made his mark in the oil and gas industry of South Louisiana. As the founder of Olsco, Inc., based in lower Plaquemines Parish, he was often seen sketching innovative designs well into his 90s. His work was not just a profession – it was a passion.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to his devoted caregiver, Lydice Ellis, for her exceptional care and support.
Max’s legacy is one of service, innovation, and unshakable positivity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Graveside celebration of Max’s life at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, Louisiana on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 11 AM.
