Mary Caroline Hamann Turlich, affectionately known as “Liney” and “Dawlin”, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2026 with her daughters at her side.
Daughter of the late Mary Amelia Wiseman Hamann and Joseph Frank Hamann, Sr. Sister of Joseph Frank Hamann, Jr. and the late Antoinette “Netty” Hamann Chartier.
She met the love of her life at the tender age of 14. Mervin “Merv” Anthony Turlich fell in love at first sight and proposed soon after. They would forever refer to each other as “my love”. He patiently waited until she was a senior in high school to get her daddy’s blessing and became married.
Dawlin and Merv have five beautiful daughters: Jeanne Amelia Turlich, Rosalie “Dobie” Nanette Turlich Edgecombe (Jeff), Pamela Ann Turlich Scarabin (Deron), Mary Caroline “Prune” Turlich Buras (Rodney “Bush”), and the late Melinda “Lenny” Elizabeth Turlich Cubbage (the late Vernon Cubbage II).
She is MawMaw to David Alex Landry, Jr. (Tabitha), Joey Anthony Landry, Ryan Joseph Buras (Samantha), Jeff Edward Edgecombe, Jr. (Anna), Jared Mitchell Cubbage (Maegan), Paige Caroline Buras, Jade Elizabeth Edgecombe, Deron Louis Scarabin, Andrew Patrick Scarabin, and Madisyn Kay “Madi” Scarabin.
Great-grandmother of Loghan Claire Vela-Lopez (Jose), David Alex Landry, III, Collin Anthony Mills, Bently Mills, Zoë Roy, Dylan Mitchell Cubbage, Kynlee Ann Landry, Hunter Elizabeth Cubbage, Ellie Rose Landry, Jaxon Eli Edgecombe, Jacques Cyprien Buras, Ryker James Edgecombe, Scarlett Rae Machuca, Cohen Anthony Cubbage, Juliette Rae Buras, Easton Kai Black, and Sadie Tate Edgecombe.
Great-great-grandmother of Isabel “Bean” Vela-Lopez and an expectant baby boy, Ivory Vela-Lopez.
She graduated Salutatorian of the Class of 1959 from Buras High School. After getting married, she was content to be a stay-at-home mom. When Pam and Prune were in high school, she went to work for Stumpf’s IGA Supermarket, Venice Ace Hardware, as a substitute teacher at Boothville-Venice Elementary School and as a custodian at Cypress Cove Marina.
She was a resident of St. Oaks Care Center in Carriere, Mississippi since 2024. Special thanks to the staff of St. Oaks for their patience and sincere love that they gave her throughout her stay. They treated her like the queen that she was. Special thanks to Summer from Notre Dame Hospice.
Visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Boulevard (corner Westwood Drive), Marrero, Louisiana on Friday, April 17, 2026 from 11 AM to 1 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow in the funeral home chapel. Interment Our Lady of Good Harbor Cemetery in Buras, Louisiana.
