Mary Gloria O’Meallie DeRocha passed away peacefully on June 5, 2017 at the age of 91 years. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milton B. “Poke” DeRocha Sr.; grandson, Terry J. Poche III; parents, Thomas Patrick O’Meallie, Mary Cecilia Stubbs O’Meallie and Elizabeth Stubbs O’Meallie and siblings, Harry O’Meallie and Dorothy O’Meallie Sullivan.
She is survived by her children, Mary DeRocha Hancock (Art), Milton “Bernie” DeRocha (Wendy), Kathy DeRocha Guillot (James), Barbara DeRocha Desmet (Laurent), Peter T. DeRocha (Marlene) and Fr. Cyprian Ongiro; grandchildren, Kris (Megan), Hugh (Gabby), Bradley, Jenny (Eric), Wesley, Cord, Matthew, Amanda and Abby; great-grandchildren, Julien, Shanie, Adrianna, Devin, Brooks and Sophie Rose due in October, 2017. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
Mary was a devout Catholic and quintessential volunteer. She was very active in the former St. Julian Eymard Church and School as a room mother, co-founder of the Fun Club, C.Y.O., Pro Life representative, was a charter member for over 40 years with Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Court 2165 Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Legion of Mary and Fr. Cyprian’s Rosary Makers for the Ugandan missions. While at St. Julian, she was the recipient of the Order of St. Louis Medallion for her tireless dedication. At St. Andrew the Apostle Church parish, she was active in SANYO, Westbank Unity Rally, Bible study and an “all purpose” volunteer for the school. At Holy Name of Mary Church, as a Pro Life representative, she served on the monument committee and was instrumental in the movement of the Pro Life monument to its’ present site. She was a Band Booster for Archbishop Shaw High School. During her years, she touched the hearts and minds of so many people in so many ways. She will be sadly missed but her life and legacy will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 9 AM to 1:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow in the funeral home chapel. Interment Greenwood Cemetery.
