Mary Louise Cavalier, lovingly known as "MawMaw," entered the gates of Heaven on June 17, 2026, at the age of 85. She was born on August 19, 1940, and was the beloved daughter of the late Jimmie Oliver (Olavici) Ferguson and Eileen (Lil Ellan/Sidney) Manshack.
She was the beloved wife of Carl James Cavalier, Sr. for 69 years. She was the devoted mother of Carl James Cavalier Jr. (wife Mary J. Cavalier), Gregory Shane Cavalier (wife Vanessa Cavalier), Charlie Ray Cavalier, Deborah Marie Cavalier (husband Huey Marcel), and the late Betty Diane Cavalier (Gebbia). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Mary was the dear sister of Jimmie Earl Ferguson; stepdaughter of Daniel Wayne Childress; half-sister of Lorita Childress, Erma Spears, and Ruthie Meshell; and was preceded in death by her half-sister, Yvonne Childress.Mary was also preceded in death by her grandparents, George Manshack Sr. and Pauline Procell, as well as her aunts and uncles: George Manshack Jr., Willie B. Manshack, Rena Mae, Mary Violet Picard, Eula Manshack, Zula Davis, O’Lita Streetman, Thomas Manshack, and Clarence Manshack. She is still lovingly remembered by her uncle, Mayo Manshack.
Born in Converse, Louisiana, Mary was a long-time resident of Avondale, Louisiana. She cherished her family above all else. Her home was always open, her kitchen was always full, and there was never a shortage of food, laughter, or love for anyone who walked through her door. She loved cooking for her family, caring for others, playing bingo, listening to music, and spending time with those she loved. Neighborhood children were always welcome, and many considered her a second mother or grandmother.
She was a strong and determined woman—firm when necessary, yet gentle, compassionate, and loving. Her unwavering devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family was evident throughout her life. Greatness may be taken from our sight, but the memories she gave us will live on forever.Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, Louisiana on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, beginning at 9AM until 11AM.
